Gear I Actually Use

There is a difference between recommending gear and selling whatever somebody waves in front of you. This page is for tools, products, and equipment that have earned a place through actual use. Some of it gets used on the range. Some of it gets used in the truck. Some of it gets used at the desk while handling student records, business paperwork, and the daily work that keeps Davey Defense moving.

The standard is simple. Use it. Trust it. Or trash it. Tell it straight when asked.

The Davey Defense gear standard: If something shows up here, it is because I use it, trust it, or believe it fits the Davey Defense standard. Affiliate links do not lead the recommendation. The product has to earn the recommendation first.

Bastion Bolt Action Pens

Two Bastion bolt action pens carried in a high visibility work vest pocket.
Two Bastion pens ride in my vest because paperwork does not stop when one pen quits.

I bought my first Bastion pens with my own money because I wanted to try them. I bought more because they earned their place. These pens get used for range notes, student records, truck paperwork, and daily working life.

X-Steel Targets

AR550 steel silhouette target after five years and about 10,000 pistol hits on the Davey Defense range
This AR550 silhouette has lived on my range for about five years and has taken roughly ten thousand pistol hits.

I use X-Steel Targets on my range because they have held up to real use. Steel gives students immediate feedback, keeps training moving, and rewards good hits with the ring of the target.

These targets have been shot, repainted, cleaned up, and put back to work. That is what I want from range equipment.
