Why We Ask for the Last Six Digits of Your Driver’s License
Short version: It’s our way to positively match the person we trained to the certificate we sign. It protects you and it protects us.
What we collect
- Last six digits of your driver’s license number.
- Your name and email (already provided during registration/completion).
Why we collect it
This is a Davey Defense LLC standard. It is not a Minnesota BCA requirement.
- Positive identity match: Links the student physically present on the range to the certificate issued.
- Verification on request: If a sheriff’s office calls to confirm a certificate, we can verify the person trained is the person certified.
- Fraud prevention: Helps stop mix-ups or misuse of names/emails.
How it’s used
- On-range check: Instructors verify the last six against your physical driver’s license at live fire.
- Record linkage: Stored with your training record to tie registration, completion, and certificate together.
- No marketing use: We do not use this for advertising or sharing with third parties.
Privacy and security
- We store only the last six digits, not the full license number.
- Records are kept in our training files for compliance and verification purposes.
- Access is limited to authorized Davey Defense LLC personnel and provided to law enforcement only for certificate verification.
When we collect it
- Online forms: You’ll be asked for the last six during registration or completion.
- At the range: Instructor will confirm against your driver’s license. If it doesn’t match, we correct the record on the spot.
Common questions
Is this required by the BCA?
No. This is a Davey Defense policy for positive identification and certificate integrity.
What if I typed the wrong digits online?
No problem. We verify at the range against your license and correct the record.
Do you store my full driver’s license number?
No. Only the last six digits, tied to your training record.
Will this affect my permit application?
No. It exists to confirm who we trained if a sheriff’s office calls to verify your certificate.
